Papillary urothelial carcinoma-high grade

Well, I finally found out what I got and how bad.

It was a good news, bad news sort of Doc visit Tuesday. Of course, I really had to strain to consider any of it ‘good’.

The good part being it hasn’t gone any farther than my bladder and high grade doesn’t have the same meaning, as say… like how good a specific kind of cannabis is or how good that vodka on the top shelf is..quite the opposite in fact.

So….I will seek out the opinion of an oncologist. Because I do not take any doctors pov at face value. Plus, having one doc’s opinion does not make it the best way to treat said condition as the treatment for this form of cancer varies, according to crap I have read online, and the one my urologist wants to use isn’t  chemo but it does carry the added side effects of contracting hepatitis and/or tuberculosis.

Christ…aren’t those lovely side effects! I think losing my hair would be an easier and safer alternative at this point but the Doc wasn’t having a discussion with me, he was telling Me what He was going to do. For once, I decided not to argue with my doctor..I just smiled and asked some general questions..seething as I sat there…and reminding myself not to make a fist, as he might notice that.

Because No One tells Dusty what to do..at least, not without a second opinion. ;)  I do like the color of the tumor however as purple IS my favorite color. For some reason the Doc didn’t laugh when I said that. Evidently he has NO sense of humor.

And wigs kinda sound like a cool thing at this point…imagine the possibilities! The color’s, the lengths, the styles…hell, its something to occupy my little mind besides being all doomy and gloomy…as I hate doom and gloom..unless I am bitching about politics of course.

  1. Christ, Dusty. Luck and more luck to you.

  2. To quote a blog friend, “Fuck cancer.” Best of luck and looking forward to the wig post.

  3. You should find a bladder cancer forum. Cancer web sites often know which doctors to go to (assuming your insurance covers it) for the best care. I recommend going to a respectable research university hospital with a urological oncologist if you have one in your vicinity. Unless you’re stuck with an HMO :( many POS-type insurance plans cover this, and they have the organizational ability to make the paperwork easier, even.

  4. All good thoughts aimed your way. I’ve faith in your fight.

  5. My mother had the option to radiate and chemo something or have “radical surgery.” She was told that if she had surgery and it “didn’t” work, the other options would still be available, but if she took the other options and they did not work, nothing more could be done.

She had the surgery and it did work. She has been cancer free for well over a decade.

Getting multiple opinions is good. Also, if you can have surgery (perhaps you cannot), it is the best option for another reason: the side-effects are minimal.

Best of luck to you, Dusty. If I prayed, you would be in my prayers. Since I do not, you are in my thoughts. If there is something up there, I suppose He can hear those too.

  6. I wish you luck my friend and i guess knowing is better…you know there is something to be said about bald women…..but that is a joke for a later day…lol

Doctors…..most of them before they grad from med school are taken to a campus basement and hooked up to a machine that removes their sense of humor and personality…

  7. Good luck Dusty, if anyone can kick its ass, that would be you.
    It is a nice purple.

  8. Oh damn girlfriend. Checking out all your options & also asking what if’s are for sure in order.
I hope the best for you. If you have to go bald, you can think Sinead O’ Connor, cause I hear wigs are synthetic & hot & uncomfortable.
Cotton bandana or scarf might be a better way to go. But hell that’s the least of your worries.
Fighting the good fight & staying healthy & alive are the priority.
I favor hitting the big C from all fronts…. so see about going the fresh juicing (live food) stuff and hitting the anti oxidants pretty hard (green tea is your friend!), as well as whatever else you decide to kick this disease to the curb. Also hitting the herbal front, w bladder specific herbals AS WELL AS A CONVENTIONAL treatment, because avoiding the spreading of it is key. Best wishes for you Amiga.

  9. Hey Dusty~ Here are some herbal links

Google Herbs for Bladder Cancer to find more sites & info.

NOT advocating you just use herbs, but that you can do a multi approach strategy.

  10. For once I’m at a loss for words. Hang in there. Don’t know if you saw it, but after the last medical report I saw here I left you this.

Oh, yes, a second opinion sounds like an excellent idea. It sounds like that doctor’s listening skills need some work. Doctors who can’t listen make mistakes.

    • Wow, thanks m’dear Cujo, yer making me blush damn it. ;)

I got my Primary care Physician to put in for a second opinion on the treatment options I have. I love my PCP as he fights for me every step of the way and sadly his own step=father has the very same type of cancer.
